Or more accurately, some kind of blend of a bizarre neo-mystical cult steeped in a wide variety of utterly nonsense conspiracy theories.

How long will it take for this cult to have its first mass casualty event, I wonder? We truly live in the stupidest timeline.

It’s not just becoming a religion, it’s being promoted and advertised religiously.

The way the boosters and doomers talk about chatbots make it clear they believe they are building God, and they want everyone to know it.

Well… There’s a theologically inspired game where DEUS is a biological supercomputer gone rogue, so on order to quote the intro:

YOU SHALL BE AS GODS YOU SHALL BE AS GODS YOU SHALL BE AS GODS YOU SHALL BE AS GODS YOU SHALL BE AS GODS YOU SHALL BE AS GODS YOU SHALL BE AS GODS YOU SHALL BE AS GODS YOU SHALL BE AS GODS

Thousands of years of human history but yours is the only true religion? I’d be amused if I wasn’t so disgusted.

I think I got brain damage by watching this and I am 2 minutes in, the video is 42:58. I need to take a break. That is sick content.

Taylor Lorenz is actually a pretty solid journalist that has dealt with some lousy personal issues. Her coverage of privacy and freedom of speech issues online has been good. But she also has to earn a living producing online content.

Yep, See the Behind The Bastards episodes about Effective Altruists, Sam Altman, and the Zizians.

They literally think that by doing everything possible to bring about superhuman general intelligence, the new AI god will fix all of our problems and save more lives in the future than it’s worth spending money on other programs to save lives right now.

It’s olympic-level mental gymnastics but some are throwing serious capital behind it.
