• The telecommunications sector is government-owned.(1, 2)
  • The news sector is government-owned.
  • Petrol companies are owned by the government.( 1)
  • They have extensive social welfare programs.( 1)

And that is why it suffers from a lot of issues.

Not at all. OP seems to mistake socialism and authoritarism.

      From the wikipedia page:

The UAE is an authoritarian federal monarchy. According to The New York Times, the UAE is “an autocracy with the sheen of a progressive, modern state”. The UAE has been described as a “tribal autocracy” where the seven constituent monarchies are led by tribal rulers in an autocratic fashion. There are no democratically elected institutions, and there is no formal commitment to free speech. According to human rights organisations, there are systematic human rights violations, including the torture and forced disappearance of government critics.

I believe you’ll struggle to find actual socialist thinkers endorse this kind of government.

But the government is ruled by monarchies made up of several families.

I would argue its the monarchy that causes the issues or in other words the lack of democracy and rights for the citizens. I do understand unlike most here that you do not mean socialism in its pure politcal form but rather social policies like what folks like myself would like. I would not give up democracy for them though. I would argue that finland is the democratic form of this. Money from natural resources going toward social programs. Since its a democracy though the citizens have freedoms and the money is also invested for the future to keep the system sustainable and no one is looking to bribe the citizenry so much as the folks want basic needs covered and things to be done in a civilized fashion.

So most people’s vision of socialism doesn’t involve slaves (not that I’m a socialist but let’s get our facts straight). Also what issues?
