Does anybody have the link to the guy whose project car got booted on all four wheels, so he just put it on dollies, wheeled it into his garage, and told the boot company that they can have their boots back whenever they’d like but he’s certainly not paying them anything?
Didn’t a guy once park a tank in front of his house and told HOA if that don’t like it they can move it.
Lmao, how/why did it get booted?
If I recall correctly, it was briefly parked on the street without an HOA parking pass while he reorganized his garage so that he’d have more space to work on it
The boot company ended up calling the cops on him for stealing their boots; “I didn’t steal them, they can have them back whenever they want” was enough that the cops just laughed at the situation and fucked off
There is a copy of it, the original appears no longer available
So, whatever happened to the guy?
Edit: full thread (via copy paste) here, including the final resolution to the story.
amazing thread lmfao
Yeah, it took a while to get through, but it was worth it to get to the end!
All I see is a humble, happy hobbyist.
HOA’s have the authority to fine you and take your property in some jurisdictions, truly should be illegal.
Yep, they put liens on your property and can foreclose on your house from under you, without you even knowing. They can put it up on auction and sell it without informing you.
They should be illegal.

Yeah, that’s the part that always gets downplayed in these ‘homeowner revenge’ stories. HOAs can really fuck you over. Sometimes they get bankrupted in a lawsuit, sometimes you lose your sanity and your home.
look, hoa board have names and addresses.probably near you.
And you thought the lawnmower engine at 6 AM on a Saturday was annoying…
That’s an endless point of debate here in Texass.
In the summer months, if you aren’t done mowing by seven in the morning, you’re gonna die of heat stroke.
Some HOAs actually have the right to foreclose on your home if you’re behind on payments. It’s insane.
The ability to foreclose is part of holding a lein, it’s not some special power an HOA has.
“the ability is BECAUSE OF one of their self-granted special powers, not the self-granted special power itself”
Meh. There are plenty of good HOAs that make sure your neighbors aren’t assholes as well as tank property value dying stupid shit.
As someone who lived in a neighborhood without an HOA, I completely agree with this. I had so many bad experiences with the neighborhood without the HOA. Aside from people not taking care of their yards or houses, including one person who replaced their grass with laminate tiles, there were much worse things.
There were constantly cars parked up and down the streets blocking your view and making it impossible for two cars to pass. We had two neighbors feuding over parking in front of each other’s houses. One of them decided to line the curb with cones. And the other would just leave their trash can out 24/7 blocking the curb.
I had a neighbor start a computer refurb business out of their garage. Which caught on fire at least 3 times. One time it caught on fire and there were so many cars parked on the street the firetrucks couldn’t make it to their house.
The neighborhood I live in now has the perfect balance. The HOA is run by a 3rd party who does not live in the neighborhood. And all rule changes require a meeting and at least half of the residents need to be in attendance before it can be taken to a vote. This keeps one neighbor from taking things over and turning into one of those nightmare HOAs you always hear about.
And they also pay to maintain shared services, like utilities and stormwater management. It’s not black and white.
