Slightly hotter, but still quite tame take:

Ham is the problem with Hawaiian pizza. Pineapple is innocent.

The ham used on pizzas around here (northeast US), usually isn’t salty enough to work on a Hawaiian pizza. It’s often deli ham, which runs the risk of being sweet, but otherwise flavorless.

Bacon or pepperoni work better. Jalapeno also helps.

Ah, so your objection is only with pineapple. See, I don’t do pineapple on pizza not because I think it’s unholy, but simply because I don’t like pineapple in general. I thought you just objected to ham on pizza on principle; I can’t speak to it as a companion for pineapple.

It’s hard to see where I’d choose it over another topping, but I imagine with most pizzas I don’t really care about ham’s failings.

Pineapple and anchovies might be the two stanard toppings that are really build-arounds. Most other standard pizza toppings seem closer to “do whatever, it’ll be fine”

That does sound great! Ham isn’t necessarily a bad ingredient, it’s just unusually difficult to tell if it’ll be good or it’ll suit your tastes, especially with more inexpensive kinds.

Mmm… Some have been almost exactly the right film for the right time were very satisfying. It’s easy to say they are all simple and basic after it’s been a decade and they have printed out a hundred clones that all are the same but some truly were impressive.

I still think the reverse hero’s journey following the villain complete the arc to confuse the pathos of Infinity War was pretty sweet way to avoid the bloated cast.

And Iron Man was a great take on a flawed character that had a really great arc considering you are pretty much always meant to hate him a little and it was perfect casting.

But now casting is done by who needs the press and who can bid the highest and it’s pretty much all garbage. But a decade ago… It was like getting an original McDonald’s burger and fries from 2 brothers who liked good burgers.

If those people who hate on pineapple pizza saw the pizze I prepare, they’d scream bloody murder. Let’s see…

        • Chocolate, shredded coconut, strawberries, mozzarella. No sauce.
        • Mango and kielbasa krakowska.
        • Beef stroganoff, including straw potatoes. It gets two sauces.
        • pinhão/piñón pizza. It’s a starchy local pine kernel, certainly not found in Italy. (Or outside my homeland for all that matters.) It’s carb over carb.
        • pizze bianche in general. Some folks in my family simply like them!

Pizza is an open faced sandwich that gets cooked quickly. It’s not special and the process is done in other places in other ways but for some reason people hold onto stuff so tightly.

That being said turkey dinner pizza. Turkey slices and gravy, dollops of potatoes and some cheddar cheese. Hell yeah.

That first one sounds awful to me (coconut is not for me) but that just means there’s more for you! I’d definitely try the rest.

Toss a few scoops of mashed potatoes on that last one and give it a go…like pepperoni-sized scoops slightly pressed down. Add some chopped bacon if you’re feeling it. THAT is my favorite non-standard pizza of all time

In cases that someone dislikes coconut it’s rather easy to leave it out from some slices. I’d probably do it for you.

The mashed potatoes sound like a great idea, for texture variation. I’ll try it, thank you for the tip!

I’m still cool with super hero films. What I am getting sick of is seeing the origin stories a dozen times as they reboot shit constantly. I want new stories; not the same story told a hundred different ways. That’s why I like the MCU stuff. They actually continued most of it without doing a ton of origin stuff all the time.

I occasionally listen to a podcast that reviews basically any and all movies that are adapted from comics and they take their name from the exact issue you mentioned, Not Another Origin Story. I guess it shows that even among the people that really enjoy and are passionate about superhero movies constantly redoing the origin is a tired act.

Pineapple by itself on Pizza isn’t very good - too sweet and bland. The original popularity was for the combination with ham: salty and sweet

I have a very strong suspicion that most people hate pineapple on pizza because they don’t have the genetics to counteract the enzymes in the pineapple. It is hard to like a pizza that actively hurts you to eat. I’ll also say that most hawaiian pizza that I’ve had, is horrible and sucks, no in terms of conceptual shortcomings, but just in terms of ingredient quality. They use precooked sliced lunch meat style ham, most of the time, and like, cold uncooked pineapple. The pineapple should be grilled, and the ham should be fried, I would think. Cooking the pineapple helps to cut down on some of the water content that ends up making the pizza cold and soggy, and cooking also helps to break down the enzymes that hurt your mouth.

The billionaire take is less of a hot take than the pineapple on pizza take. I think it’s kinda cause “the billionaire class” is something that people can more easily stick faces to, they’ve become more notable celebrities with the rise of silicon valley tech genius idiots. If you got rid of elon musk and jeff bezos, and maybe bill gates, I think like, a lot of the negative publicity against billionaires would evaporate overnight.

Lots of people are opposed more to the amount of brainspace they take up, and the lack of results they show, rather than being opposed to the idea of billionaires themselves, or, being opposed to the idea of capital, and capitalists. I get the sense that a lot of people would be perfectly fine with elon musk if he was investing in like, big public works projects and not stupid tunnels for his electric cars. I’ve seen quite a lot of people that just kinda hate the idea of someone having a billion dollars, just generally, kind of, in the way that you hate someone who dresses too ostentatiously, rather than having a more specific reason they hate them.

I don’t really like superhero movies as much as I like their animated counterparts. Teen titans, justice league, batman: the animated series, batman beyond, static shock, almost all the spiderman animated shows but especially spectacular spider man, avengers: earth’s mightiest heroes, the old silver surfer cartoon, the old X-Men animated series. Some of them are pretty good.

I think also a lot of people tend to hate superhero movies on the basis that they’re like. Pretentious twatbags. They can’t enjoy a campy, schlocky kind of movie, they have to watch something “good”, something that conforms to conventional definitions of “good”. Never could they enjoy watching mean girls. Lots of superhero movies, basically all of them to some degree, fall into the camp. Like blade, the original spiderman trilogy. Even marvel is kind of, one foot in the schlock and the cheese, and one foot in the “trying to be serious cinema with serious emotional stakes”, and they don’t always juggle it correctly.

I may be even older but I still have a dream. I still like impossible action scenes. I still like a story where the protagonist can go beyond what is humanly possible.

The problem with superhero movies is when they think that is sufficient and don’t bother with plot, character development, or even consistency. I’m fine for the duration of the movie with suspension of disbelief for magic or however is explained, as long as they are consistent with it, follow their own explanation. Then again, I also like Micheal Bay movies, so whatever

I can agree with the last take, if it’s specifically live action superhero movies. Doesn’t matter whether it’s DC or Marvel, I just don’t like live action superhero movies. Give me, say, Batman The Animated Series or Teen Titans or Static Shock over any live action adaptation any day.
